Using apostrophes when the name ends in “s”

The problem with apostrophes (one of these ) is they are tricky little symbols with lots of uses and rules about location.

One of the ways to use an apostrophe is to show ownership e.g. Karen’s desk (instead of writing “the desk of Karen”).

However, if the name ends in “s” e.g. Alexis, it becomes confusing. Personally, I would write “Alexis’ desk” but it is equally correct to write “Alexis’s desk”.

I’ve done the research and decided opinions are mixed. It seems everyone thinks they are correct. My recommendation is to choose which way you want to go and then ensure it is consistent throughout the document.
