Government, Parliament & Company – Do they begin with a capital letter?

Words like government, parliament and company do not begin with a capital letter when you are referring to them generally. In these instances, use lowercase.

However, when talking about a specific organisation or an institution, you begin the word with a capital letter. For example:

  • Our government is elected by the people.
  • The Australian Government has strict laws and regulations on that issue.
