“Affect” means influence e.g. Wet weather affects my exercise routine.
“Effect” means result e.g. When I finally cleaned my windows, the effect was dazzling.
To check you are using the correct word, try replacing it with the words “influence” or “result”. Then it’s easy to see which word should be used.
Right: Wet weather influences my exercise routine.
Wrong: Wet weather results my exercise routine.
Right: When I finally cleaned my windows, the result was dazzling.
Wrong: When I finally cleaned my windows, the influence was dazzling.
